Five anarchists arrested in Barcelona accused of bombing

The comrades Monica and Francisco remain in preventive prison, the other three comrades are released.

After remaining locked up since their arrest on November 13 at the hands of the antiterrorist police, their exact location unknown, on November 17 the judge of the high level court Audiencia Nacional, Eloy Velasco, handed down “provisional imprisonment,” which would be equal to “preventive prison” in Chilean justice, for the comrades Monica and Francisco [nT: both of whom were recently absolved in the “bombs case” in Chile and had since moved to Barcelona]. The length of the “investigation” period is unknown [nT: but under Spanish justice can last 2 years].

The crimes for which they are finally being accused are:

  • belonging to a terrorist organization
  • terrorist damages (placing an explosive device in Zaragoza) [nT: in October a bomb was detonated in the Basilica de Pilar in Zaragoza, with a communique claiming responsibility signed by “Comando Insurreccional Mateo Morral” and referencing the role of the church in the colonization of South America]
  • Conspiracy to commit terrorist damages (Alleged plans for an attack on the Monastery of Montserrat in Barcelona).

On the other hand, the comrade Valeria [nT: from Italy], the comrade Gerardo [nT: from Argentina], and the comrade Rocío [nT: from Chile] were released after being held incommunicado 5 days. Their passports were seized and they are obliged to sign in periodically at court.

We greet the 3 comrades who are now on the street after being in the disgusting hands of the antiterrorist section.

It is expected that the comrades Francisco and Monica will be interned in the brutal isolation regime F.I.E.S. and that they will be dispersed to separate and distant cities in Spain. We do not remain indifferent or comfortable with our comrades in the jaws of Power. We remind you that the comrade Monica has a vegan diet, which she maintained throughout the political imprisonment she faced in 2010 [nT: during the bombs case], which is something to take into consideration during the daily life in prison, wherever it may occur.

Internationalist solidarity and rebellion for Monica and Francisco.
Comrades let’s not forget them and not let them be alone!

[Some words on the background from the translator, only regarding what can be spoken of publicly and has already appeared in the media: The Spanish media have made a big deal about the foreign nationality of the arrested comrades. For at least a year leading up to the arrests, the Catalan and Spanish media have been preparing the figure of the foreign anarchist terrorist (principally Italian or South American), claiming that Barcelona or Spain more generally have become havens for such terrorists.

The Commando Insurreccional Mateo Morral also claimed responsibility for a bombing at the beginning of the year, at a cathedral in Madrid. Spanish National Police claim they caught Francisco and Monica thanks to surveillance video footage of the two travelling to Zaragoza in public transportation and around the Basilica. They claim to be searching through old footage hoping to also connect the two to the earlier bombing in Madrid.

The arrests were timed to occur right before elections in Chile. The Interior Ministries in Spain and Chile have been in contact regarding the arrests, and in the days immediately after the arrests every major Chilean politician made statements, to the effect of, “We were right after all” (about the 14 comrades arrested in the Bombs Case being responsible for the bombings they were acquitted of), also calling for new judges, tougher laws, and always believing the police. It is possible they will have greater political consequences in Chile than in Spain. The Chilean government has sent out a warning of possible reprisal attacks against Chilean embassies and businesses, particularly in Greece, Italy, and Spain.]

Appeal from anarchist comrades concerning Typhoon Yolanda (Philippines)

On November 8, 2013, typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda (local name) shot  its landfall in the Philippines. Typhoon Yolanda is one of the strongest  typhoons which struck Philippines on a record. It has sustained winds  of 235 kph (147 mph) with gusts of 275 kph (170 mph) when it made  landfall. By those measurements, Yolanda can be compared to a strong  Category 4 hurricane in the U.S, nearly in the top category, a 5.

A message from a comrade in Sweden regarding the nation-wide student demonstrations against privatizations

studentdemosweYesterday, Thursday the 14th, there were nation-wide demonstrations, sit-ins and meetings in Sweden.

All under the slogan #ockuper auniversitetet which translates to #occupytheuniversity. Sweden has never had a real student movement, not

during 68 or the 70’s and not after that. Nothing that compares to the events in France, Italy or elsewhere. The Swedish left wing, also it’s more radical elements, have always contained some skepticism towards organizing as students. In later years the autonomous movement has preferred to organised as precarious workers rather than students. There have been some organisations, currents and struggles, of course.

Jeremy’s Plea and What Comes Next

June 5, 2013

Last Tuesday morning, as storm clouds formed outside the federal courthouse in lower Manhattan, Jeremy Hammond pleaded guilty  to one count of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. His crime  was publicizing internal emails from the private intelligence agency  Stratfor which revealed that the company had been spying on human rights  activists at the behest of major corporations and the U.S. government.  For that he is facing up to 10 years in prison.
In a statement explaining his actions Jeremy wrote,  “I believe people have a right to know what governments and  corporations are doing behind closed doors. I did what I believe is  right.” Continue reading Jeremy’s Plea and What Comes Next

Statement from Jeremy regarding his plea

Today I pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. This was a very difficult decision. I hope this statement will explain my reasoning. I believe in the power of the truth. In keeping with that, I do not want to hide what I did or to shy away from my actions. This non-cooperating plea agreement frees me to tell the world what I did and why, without exposing any tactics or information to the government and without jeopardizing the lives and well-being of other activists on and offline. The march followed the regular course through the city.

From the Existential Insurrection to the Social Revolution – Polykarpos Georgiadis

I. “Only collective existence exists; only social existence exists. It is ridiculous to claim that Hell is the other. The other, as reality itself, can be a source of hinders, but it is also a source of possibility” K. Kastoriadis

“Real wealth is the development of the social individual”

Karl Marx

The existential insurrection, that is, the insurrectionary experience of “here and now”, doubtless is an essential part of the collective anti-authoritarian revolutionary project and we should not underestimate it: it re-connects visionary elements of the social revolution with current practical activities within existing social relations as well as it does not relegate action (as a theory-action unity) to a dark and undefined future. We are not expecting a beautiful Great Night that the sky will rain revolution. Instead, we activate our dynamics today and not in an undefined time of “mature and objective conditions” that detour in a metaphysical way from the subjective factor. Besides, in the current historical context, the objective conditions are over-mature, in contrast to the weak conscience of the subjective factor. At the same time, the insidious role of mainstream Left alongside our own inefficiency has played a major role to the current contradiction: on the one hand a class war at its peak, on the other hand a weak revolutionary movement. About the case of Jeremy Hammond

Jeremy  is currently facing federal charges under the Computer Fraud  and Abuse  Act (CFAA) for transferring information from the private  intelligence  firm Strategic Forecasting to the whistleblower news site  Wikileaks.  Written in 1984 and long criticized for being outdated and  vague, the  CFAA has seen increasing use against information activists in  an effort  to criminalize a broad spectrum of online activity.
